Note that AKC rules do not allow, except with special documentation, the registration of a litter outside a prey less than 8 months of age or older than 12 years at the time of mating, or by a parent younger than 7 months of age or older than 12 years at the time of mating. The litter kit will include an individual registration request for each puppy in the litter, as well as a form to keep a record. The litter owner should thoroughly examine the kit for errors before handing over documents to puppy buyers AKC will continue to use DNA technology to verify the paternity of litters tested during kennel inspections. Standard protocols that will remain in place include annual inspections of all breeders of 25 or more litters, inspection of pet stores and distributors, as well as complaint-based inspections with substantial documentation.
There should be no doubt as to the identity of an individual dog or as to the paternity of a particular dog or litter.
